A senior Iranian military adviser has warned that any renewed conflict between Iran and the United States could expand beyond the Gulf and Red Sea to the Indian Ocean, as Tehran says its armed forces have prepared for a range of possible scenarios.

Maj. Gen. Yahya Rahim Safavi, a senior military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, said Iranian forces had developed plans for what he described as worst-case scenarios in the event of further US or Israeli attacks on Iranian facilities or national interests.

Safavi’s remarks were carried by Iran’s Fars News Agency on Thursday.

“We do not know what is going on in the minds of (US President) Trump and (Israeli Prime Minister) Netanyahu,” Safavi said, referring to the possibility of renewed military action against Iran.

He said Iran’s armed forces were preparing for different scenarios and warned that another conflict could have a broader geographic scope than previous confrontations.

“Now that the war has spread from the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea, it is possible that, in the next stage of a potential war with the US, this front could expand further, to the Indian Ocean or elsewhere,” he said.

The warning comes amid heightened regional tensions and follows previous conflicts and military confrontations involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Safavi did not provide details about the specific Iranian military plans or indicate what actions Tehran might take if further attacks occurred.
