Kurdistan Region President Receives Baghdad Governor, Emphasizes Stronger Erbil-Baghdad Cooperation

The President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, received Atwan Al-Atwani and his accompanying delegation on Thursday to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation and coordination between the cities of Erbil and Baghdad.

During the meeting, both sides highlighted the importance of strengthening ties between Iraq’s two principal cities, particularly in the fields of public services, development, municipal administration, and urban planning, with the goal of improving the quality of life for citizens.

The Kurdistan Region President reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to expanding cooperation and partnership between Erbil and Baghdad across a range of sectors. He stressed the importance of exchanging expertise and learning from each other's successful experiences to enhance service delivery and promote sustainable development.

The discussions also underscored the need to maintain close relations and coordination to support ongoing reconstruction and development efforts in both governorates.

The meeting was attended by Omed Khoshnaw, who joined the talks on advancing cooperation and fostering stronger institutional links between the two cities.

Officials described the meeting as part of broader efforts to deepen cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad and to encourage joint initiatives that contribute to development, improved public services, and greater prosperity for citizens in both governorates.
