Erdogan Tells Trump Iran–US Disputes Can Be Solved Through Diplomacy Amid Regional Tensions

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has told U.S. President Donald Trump that disagreements between Iran and the United States can be resolved through diplomatic engagement, emphasizing the importance of continued dialogue between the two sides.

According to Türkiye’s Presidential Communications Directorate, Erdogan described ongoing efforts to ease regional tensions as a “positive development,” adding that a reasonable settlement between Washington and Tehran remains achievable if diplomacy is sustained. He also welcomed the extension of a ceasefire between the two sides.

The phone call comes amid continued regional instability linked to Iran’s nuclear programme, military tensions, and indirect negotiations involving the United States, Gulf countries, and regional mediators.

During the conversation, Erdogan also highlighted the need to prevent further escalation in the Middle East, with the two leaders discussing developments in Syria and Lebanon.

Türkiye has frequently positioned itself as a mediator in regional disputes, maintaining diplomatic relations with both Iran and Western powers despite broader geopolitical tensions.

The leaders also discussed preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit 2026, with Erdogan stating that Türkiye is ready to ensure its successful hosting.

Following the call, Trump described the conversation as “very good,” noting that relations with Erdogan remain positive. Relations between Washington and Ankara have fluctuated in recent years over Syria policy, defense cooperation, sanctions, and Türkiye’s ties with Russia, though both countries remain NATO allies and continue to cooperate within the alliance framework.
