President Masoud Barzani strongly condemned a missile attack targeting Peshmerga Forces positions in the Kurdistan Region, describing it as a hostile and unjustifiable act that violates the principles of good neighbourliness and international law.

In a statement released on Monday, Barzani said the early-morning strike targeted Peshmerga positions and resulted in the death of several Kurdish fighters while injuring others.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the families of the martyrs of this unlawful attack and share their grief,” Barzani said, wishing a speedy recovery to those wounded in the strike.

Barzani emphasized that the attack cannot be justified under any circumstances and warned that it represents another example of repeated assaults against the Kurdistan Region.

He stressed that the Kurdistan Region has never been part of the ongoing conflicts in the wider Middle East and has never posed a threat to neighboring countries.

“The Peshmerga remain the most valuable national treasure of our people and a source of pride for the Kurdish nation,” he stated.
