IS May Reorganize Itself in Iraq, Syria: NATO
ERBIL - Although the Islamic State (IS) has lost all its territories in both Iraq and neighboring Syria, the jihadist group could reorganize itself once again, the Secretary-General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Jens Stoltenberg, stated on Monday.

Stoltenberg made the remarks during a press conference in the Belgian capital city of Brussels.

"ISIS does not control any territory anymore, and that is, of course, very much because of the efforts of the global coalition and that’s a huge achievement, a significant achievement," he said in response to a question by Kurdistan 24.

He, however, said that it "doesn’t mean that the fight against terrorism is over or that we can be complacent."

"We know that they still try to mobilize support for their twisted ideology."

The Islamic State was declared defeated in Iraq in late 2017, and in Syria just a few days ago, but the insurgent group's sleeper cells are still active and continue to carry out terrorist activities against the national forces and civilians.
