Iraq, PKK Deploy Reinforcement to Sinjar as Relations Sour
ERBIL — The Iraqi army and affiliated groups of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have significantly increased their forces in Sinjar after a recent confrontation.

Speaking to BasNews on Monday, Wais Naif, head of Sinjar Mayor Council, confirmed the arrival of additional Iraqi troops to Sinjar, Sinune and the border crossing with Syria.

He noted that the PKK has also increased the number of its fighters, which could threaten the fragile stability in Sinjar region.

The Iraqi army and PKK affiliates earlier this month clashed near Sinjar border gate with the Syrian Kurdistan. At least two Iraqi soldiers were killed with several others injured on both sides.

Iraq has warned the PKK and its affiliated groups to not interfere with the security plans of the army in the area.

However, Naif believes that any further confrontations would impact the Yezidi people who have risked to return to Sinjar.
