Prime Minister Barzani visits refugee camp under construction in Duhok province
The camp is being funded by the Government of Turkey’s AFAD organisation. The Prime Minister and accompanying officials examined samples of the camp’s tent shelters. The camp will include 4000 tents; each tent is designed to accommodate a family in hot or cold weather. Bathroom and shower facilities are also included on the premises. The tents are fire resistant and electricity is provided.
After his tour of the camp, Prime Minister Barzani conveyed his personal appreciation and his government’s gratitude to the AFAD organisation and the Turkish Government. He stressed Turkey now and in the past has extended aid and support to the people of Kurdistan facing tragic circumstances. He added that in addition to camps already built by AFAD elsewhere in Kurdistan, his government expects Turkey and AFAD to send 15,000 more tents and build similar camps to the same standard.
The Prime Minister also thanked the project supervisors and members of the construction teams for their hard work in building the camp, reiterating that the KRG will provide all assistance and cooperation possible to the AFAD organisation so that it can more easily bring necessary equipment to Kurdistan in order to construct camp facilities. He said he has designated the appropriate KRG bodies to ensure full cooperation in this regard.
