Korre-Shaqlawa-Qandil Road Set to Open to Drivers in October
The Korre-Shaqlawa-Qandil road project is almost three-quarters (70%) complete and is expected to open in about a month.
A 10-km dual carriageway with two tunnels and three intersections, it will reduce travel time between the Erbil and Soran districts (by more than 30 minutes), ease traffic congestion, and improve road safety. An emergency runaway ramp will also safely stop heavy vehicles that suddenly lose braking capability, helping to prevent potentially catastrophic accidents.
Lighting and safety features have already been installed in the Mawaran Tunnel, where work is currently progressing at full speed, to the highest standards.
