Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani Receives Iraqi Army Chief of Staff, Discusses Security and Oil Exports

Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received a high-ranking Iraqi military delegation led by Staff Lieutenant General Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah, Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army, to discuss security cooperation, counterterrorism efforts, and the resumption of oil production and exports.

During the meeting, the delegation outlined the objectives of its visit to the Kurdistan Region, which was undertaken at the request of Iraqi Prime Minister and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ali Al-Zaidi. The visit aimed to assess security challenges facing oil companies operating in the Kurdistan Region, in coordination with the Peshmerga forces and relevant authorities, and to provide the assurances needed for the resumption of oil production and exports.

President of Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, congratulated the Iraqi Army on its achievements in combating terrorism, noting that these successes were realized through cooperation with the Peshmerga forces as part of Iraq’s national defense system. He stressed the importance of continuing this partnership to address security gaps and confront terrorist threats in areas where extremist groups remain active.

The President also welcomed Prime Minister Al-Zaidi’s efforts to strengthen cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad, highlighting the importance of constructive relations between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government.

Addressing the issue of oil exports, President of Kurdistan Region emphasized the importance of resuming production and exports, describing the move as essential to supporting Iraq’s economic recovery and promoting long-term development.

Both sides underscored the need for a joint security strategy and enhanced coordination between the Iraqi Army and the Peshmerga forces to preserve stability, combat terrorism, and address emerging security threats.

The meeting was attended by the Kurdistan Region’s Minister of Peshmerga Affairs and the Chief of Staff of the Peshmerga forces.
