Work Continues on the Bestana–Khalakan–Dukan Road Project with a Budget of IQD 243 Billion
As part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) ongoing efforts to develop road infrastructure and ensure safe transport for citizens, construction of the strategic Bestana–Khalakan–Dukan Road project is progressing at an accelerated pace.
This project, one of the most significant infrastructure developments in the region, aims to transform the route into a modern, high-standard dual carriageway. It will greatly improve connectivity and facilitate travel between Slemani Governorate, the Raparin Independent Administration, and Dukan District.
The project is being implemented with a budget of IQD 243 billion, and extensive construction work is currently under way.
Key components of the project include:
- Excavation, cutting, and levelling of 2.5 million square metres of land.
- Asphalt paving of 840,000 square metres.
- Installation of 800,000 cubic metres of sub-base material and 300,000 cubic metres of crushed stone to strengthen the road’s foundation.
To protect the roadway and prevent rainwater accumulation, 2,000 metres of new drainage and culvert systems are being constructed.
A major component of the project is the construction of the Frizala Village Bridge, which will be 380 metres long and 15 metres wide. The bridge is expected to play a significant role in reducing traffic congestion and shortening journey times.
Construction teams remain actively engaged on site, and approximately 17% of the project has been completed to date. Work on the remaining phases is progressing according to schedule, with the aim of opening the road to serve citizens and motorists as soon as possible.
