President Barzani Marks 64th Anniversary of Becoming a Peshmerga
On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, president Masoud Barzani marked the 64th anniversary of becoming a Peshmerga by publishing a message on the social media platform X, reflecting on sacrifice, loyalty, and the enduring spirit of the Kurdish liberation movement.
In his message, President Barzani paid tribute to the Peshmergas who lost their lives in the struggle for the freedom and dignity of the Kurdish people, describing them as symbols of honor and national pride.
“Greetings to the pure souls of those Peshmergas whose blood became the breeze of freedom and dignity for their people, and who were martyred on that path,” he wrote.
President Barzani also praised all those who continue to carry the responsibility of defending Kurdistan, expressing deep emotional and symbolic respect for the Peshmerga forces.
“Greetings to all those heroes who have chosen the path of Peshmerga-hood, and I kiss the eyes and shoulders that bear that sacred duty,” the message stated.
