KDP Says It Is Working to End Political Deadlock Over Formation of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)

Sherko Habib, head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) office in Cairo, has stated that the party is actively working to end the political deadlock that is delaying the formation of the next Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Speaking to Gulan Media, Habib emphasized that, under the leadership of KDP President Masoud Barzani, the party continues its efforts to resolve political disputes through peaceful and constitutional means in order to ensure the formation of a new regional cabinet.

He stressed that the KDP’s approach to government formation is based on electoral legitimacy, pointing out that the party won 39 seats in the latest elections compared to the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s 23 seats. According to him, the results of the elections should be respected and reflected in the process of forming the new government.

Habib added that ongoing discussions among Kurdish political parties are continuing in an effort to overcome disagreements and reach a political agreement that allows the formation of the next KRG cabinet, ending the current state of deadlock.
