Donald Trump Announces Killing of Senior ISIS Figure in Joint US-Nigerian Operation
Donald Trump announced that Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, described as a senior leader and the second-in-command of the so-called Islamic State, was killed during a joint military operation carried out by United States and Nigerian forces in Nigeria.
In a statement posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump said the operation was conducted under his direction and involved what he described as a “meticulously planned and very complex mission.”
“Tonight, at my direction, brave American forces and the Armed Forces of Nigeria flawlessly executed a meticulously planned and very complex mission to eliminate the most active terrorist in the world from the battlefield. Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, second in command of ISIS…” Trump wrote.
The former US president did not provide further operational details, including the exact location of the mission or whether additional militants were killed or captured.
Nigerian authorities have not yet released an official statement confirming the operation or providing additional information about Abu-Bilal al-Minuki’s role within the militant organization.
The Islamic State has maintained a presence in parts of West Africa through affiliated extremist groups operating mainly in northeastern Nigeria and the Lake Chad region.
