ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The Central Committee of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has reaffirmed its commitment to dialogue, political stability, and constitutional solutions to disputes with Baghdad, while expressing concern over growing regional tensions and their impact on the Kurdistan Region.

During an expanded meeting chaired by KDP President Masoud Barzani on Saturday, senior party leaders, Central Committee members, and branch officials reviewed major political, security, and organizational developments affecting the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the wider Middle East.

A key focus of the meeting was the escalating confrontation between the United States and Iran and its repercussions for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The KDP stressed that the Kurdistan Region is not a party to the conflict but has nevertheless suffered from repeated missile and drone attacks that have resulted in civilian casualties, economic losses, and disruptions to the energy sector.

The party warned that continued attacks have increased public anxiety and placed additional pressure on the region’s economy, while also undermining Iraq’s broader energy stability. The KDP reiterated that dialogue and mutual understanding remain the only effective means of resolving regional disputes and preventing further escalation.

On relations with the federal government, the KDP renewed its commitment to addressing outstanding issues with Baghdad through constitutional mechanisms and constructive engagement. The party acknowledged that disputes over budget allocations, public sector salaries, and financial entitlements have persisted due to delays in implementation and insufficient progress in resolving long-standing disagreements.

The committee emphasized the importance of continued negotiations with federal authorities, noting that KDP-led efforts and official delegations to Baghdad are aimed at securing the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional rights and ensuring the timely payment of salaries and financial dues to public employees.

The KDP also voiced support for efforts to form Iraq’s new federal cabinet and welcomed anti-corruption measures aimed at recovering public funds and improving governance. The party expressed hope that these initiatives would contribute to a fair distribution of national resources and strengthen state institutions.

The meeting highlighted President Barzani’s Eid al-Adha political initiative, describing it as a responsible effort to shift political disagreements away from public confrontation and toward structured dialogue. The KDP said a special committee within the party’s politburo has been tasked with engaging political parties and exploring solutions to outstanding disputes in the Kurdistan Region.

Concluding the meeting, the KDP reaffirmed its commitment to national responsibility, peaceful coexistence, and political stability within Iraq’s federal framework. The party also stressed the importance of maintaining strong relations with Baghdad and all Iraqi political forces, including Shiite and Sunni parties, as part of broader efforts to preserve stability and advance the political process.
