The Iraqi Ministry of Transport proudly announced today that Iraqi Airways has taken delivery of its second Boeing 787 Dreamliner, marking a significant milestone for the national carrier. The official handover was supervised by Iraqi Minister of Transport, Razzaq Muhibis Al-Saadawi, who expressed optimism about the future of Iraq's aviation industry.

This latest addition to the Iraqi Airways fleet underscores the airline's commitment to expanding its network and connecting Iraq to more international destinations. The airline had previously ordered a total of 10 Boeing 787 Dreamliners to support its growth ambitions.

Last June, Iraqi Airways celebrated the delivery of its inaugural Boeing 787 Dreamliner with a special event held in Baghdad, showcasing its dedication to enhancing passenger experiences and modernizing its fleet.

The newly acquired aircraft boasts a dual-class configuration, featuring 1-2-1 flatbed seating in business class and a nine-abreast configuration in the economy cabin, according to Business Traveller News. This configuration promises increased comfort and flexibility for passengers.

Iraqi Airways, which currently serves over 50 destinations from Baghdad, is strategically renewing and expanding its fleet to cater to the expected surge in international business and leisure travel to and from Iraq. This development comes at a time when Iraq is experiencing increased stability and economic growth, with the country's annual gross domestic product growth rate projected to reach an impressive seven percent by the end of 2023.

The decision to bolster the airline's fleet is in line with the rising demand for air travel in the Middle East, where air traffic has surged by more than 40 percent compared to the previous year, as reported by industry sources.
