KDP Marks 77th Anniversary, President Barzani Applauds Followers' Resilience

In a celebration marking the 77th anniversary of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), President Masoud Barzani lauded the dedication and determination of the party's followers in the face of adversity. Recognizing the enduring commitment of KDP members to the Kurdish legitimate cause, President Barzani extended his heartfelt appreciation to all those who have contributed to the party's resilience, strength, and unwavering stance.

President Barzani's commemorative remarks included heartfelt recognition of the sacrifices made by the families of martyrs, as well as the contributions of party leadership and cadres. He emphasized the historical role of the KDP as a steadfast defender of the Kurdish cause and called upon both the members and leadership to continue upholding this significant legacy.

The KDP, a cornerstone of Kurdish political activism, was originally founded on August 16, 1946, within the region of Iranian Kurdistan (West Azerbaijan Province). Spearheaded by Mullah Mustafa Barzani, the party played a pivotal role in the September Revolution that challenged former Iraqi regimes during the 1960s and 1970s. The legacy of resilience and determination set by the KDP's foundation remains a key aspect of the party's identity.

Masrour Barzani, the Vice President of the KDP and the current Prime Minister, also extended his congratulations on the occasion of the party's anniversary. He characterized the KDP as an instrumental force behind numerous revolutionary movements and achievements in the Kurdish struggle. Masrour Barzani affirmed that the KDP's legacy stands as a beacon of Kurdish nationalism, resilience, and the advocacy for the rights of all components within the Kurdistan Region.

The anniversary celebration also coincides with the birthday of the KDP's current leader, President Masoud Barzani. Serving as the President of the Kurdistan Region from 2005 to 2017, President Barzani has been a prominent figure in the Kurdish political landscape. He notably led and orchestrated the Kurdish independence referendum in 2017, which saw over 90 percent of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) citizens voting in favor of independence.

As the KDP commemorates its 77th anniversary, the celebrations are a testament to the enduring commitment of its followers and leadership to the Kurdish cause. The party's historical contributions and steadfastness continue to shape the trajectory of Kurdish nationalism and the pursuit of the Kurdish people's rights and aspirations.
