At least 37 people have been killed and more than 40 others injured after a Russian drone strike hit a warehouse in Ukraine's Kyiv region late Friday, Ukrainian authorities said.

The attack struck a warehouse in the Bucha district, near the Ukrainian capital, triggering a massive fire followed by a series of explosions. More than 370 people were forced to evacuate the area as emergency crews responded to the blaze and searched for victims.

Kyiv region Governor Tymur Tkachenko confirmed the death toll had risen to 37 in a statement on Saturday. Among those killed was Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community, who reportedly rushed to the scene shortly after the attack to help rescue people.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the warehouse was struck by a drone before a large explosion occurred. He added that nearby infrastructure had suffered significant damage.

Zelenskyy also said criminal proceedings had been opened over possible official negligence. He stressed that regulations prohibit the storage of ammunition near residential areas.

The strike came after two days of almost continuous Russian air raids targeting Kyiv and the surrounding region. Zelenskyy warned that Ukraine was facing increasingly frequent attacks involving jet-powered drones and called for greater international support to strengthen the country's air defences.

In recent months, Russia and Ukraine have intensified their long-range attacks, increasingly targeting infrastructure such as logistics warehouses, oil facilities and ports. Such attacks have raised concerns over growing civilian casualties and damage to essential infrastructure.
