Iraqi Parliament Halts Provincial, Municipality Councils’ Activity
Kurdistan 24 cited its correspondent in Baghdad as saying that Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbusi had prepared a proposal in hopes of meeting the demands of the protesters, which was passed by the lawmakers.
According to the report, all activities at the provincial and municipality councils will be halted until the next elections.
Based on the proposal, the offices of general inspectors will be suspended, while the government will sign contracts with volunteering teachers, employ engineering and veterinary graduates, and consider the victims of protests as martyrs.
The Council of Ministers, meanwhile, convened to discuss the demonstrations, and it is said to announce a number of decisions as well.
