Iraq Sentences 11 Members of IS to Death
“The convicts confessed to belonging to the Islamic State militant group and exploding a strategic bridge located in Jurf al-Nasr district in Babil in 2014, leaving three security forces dead and 19 others wounded,” Iraqi News cited a statement on Wednesday by the Supreme Judicial Council.
The sentences were issued by the criminal court of Babil, the report said.
Iraq holds tens of thousands of IS militants under detention, waiting for trial. Country’s judicial authorities have already sentenced hundreds to death, which attracted criticism by international human rights organizations who describe the trials as “rushed”.
