ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Saturday sent congratulations to Hazim Tahseen Bag on his election as the new Mir of world Yezidis.

PM Barzani held a phone conversation with the new Mir and wished him success in his leading role, according to a press release by PM’s press office.

"The Prime Minister wished Mir Hazim Tahseen Beg success and expressed his strong support for the Yezidi people. He called the Yezidi community an integral part of Kurdistan and reaffirmed the commitment of the Kurdistan Regional Government to help alleviate their suffering following the 2014 genocide," reads the press release.

"Mir Hazim Tahseen Bag reciprocated by thanking the Prime Minister for his continuous support. They agreed to work closely together to ensure Kurdistan remains a haven of tolerance for all."

Earlier the day during a large ceremony, Hazim Tahseen Bag was sworn in as the world leader of Yazidis after his father, the former Mir, died earlier in January at the age of 86.
