Palestinians fire rockets at Israel after Gaza clashes
The Israeli army said two rockets landed in areas near the border. There were no reports of injuries or damage to infrastructure.
Some 55 Palestinians were injured in clashes during protests at the Gaza's northern border on Friday. More than half were injured by live ammunition used by Israeli soldiers.
The clashes have renewed fears of escalation in a region that has suffered three wars in the past decade. Local media reported that an Egyptian delegation was in Gaza in a bid to reduce tensions.
The latest escalation comes after Israeli forces on Thursday killed a member of Hamas, which governs the Gaza Strip. Hamas said their member had been trying to prevent a boy from approaching the border and the Israeli army later admitted the shooting had been a mistake.
The Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, have vowed to retaliate.
Just two weeks ago, the two sides had agreed a de-escalation that led Israel to ease its decade-long blockade of Gaza, a move that could allow some 5,000 businessmen to receive permission to travel out of the strip.
