One Turkish Soldier Killed, Five Injured in Clash with YPG: Statement
ERBIL — Turkish army and Syrian Kurdish fighters of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) clashed on Wednesday, which left at least one Turkish soldier killed.

According to an official press release by the Turkish defense ministry, five other Turkish troops were injured during the confrontation.

The two groups clashed in Afrin region of Syrian Kurdistan, where the Turkish army and Ankara-backed Syrian rebels took from the YPG last year in March after a months-long military operation.

Turkey views the YPG as the Syrian offspring of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is in an armed conflict with Turkey over the rights of Kurds for more than three decades.
