ERBIL — French President Emmanuel Macron confirmed on Thursday that he plans to visit Kurdistan Region.

He told Kurdistan 24 that his trip will be by the end of 2019.

Macron will also visit Iraq to discuss a range of issues, most likely the post-Islamic State era.

This will be the first official visit by Macron to Erbil since he has taken office.

Former French President François Hollande previously visited Kurdistan Region. President Masoud Barzani and former Primer Minister Nechirvan Barzani were received at the Élysée Palace on different occasions.
