Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received Switzerland’s newly appointed Ambassador to Iraq, Peter Nelson, in Erbil, where they discussed bilateral relations, cooperation, and regional developments.

During the meeting, Barzani congratulated Nelson on assuming his diplomatic duties and wished him success in his mission. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to further strengthening relations with Switzerland and expressed appreciation for the country’s continued support for both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

Ambassador Nelson, for his part, expressed satisfaction at beginning his tenure in Iraq and reiterated Switzerland’s commitment to developing its relations with both Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region. He also stressed the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation.

The two sides additionally exchanged views on the political and security situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, as well as the latest developments across the wider region.
