A series of powerful explosions rocked the Ais area in the southern Aleppo countryside early Monday, with initial reports indicating that the blasts occurred at a weapons and ammunition depot, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The UK-based monitoring group said several successive explosions were heard in the Ais area in southern Aleppo, but the identity of the party operating the facility was not immediately known.

Information on casualties and material damage was also unavailable at the time of reporting.

The incident follows a series of explosions at weapons and ammunition facilities across Syria in recent weeks, several of which have resulted in significant casualties.

On September 18, an ammunition depot belonging to Syria’s Defense Ministry exploded in the Ayash area west of Deir al-Zour, killing 11 ministry personnel and injuring 10 others, according to the Syrian Observatory.

Earlier, on September 9, an explosion at a missile depot near the Al-Kamouna camp in northern Idlib killed 18 people and injured 15. On September 1, an ammunition-laden vehicle exploded in the town of Binnish, killing five people.

The repeated incidents have raised concerns over the storage and transportation of weapons and ammunition in Syria, particularly when military facilities are located near residential communities and displacement camps.

The Syrian Observatory has warned that inadequate safety measures could pose a direct threat to civilians and emergency responders. The group has called for urgent measures to improve safety and relocate ammunition depots away from populated areas.
