Ukraine Says Russian Missile Strike Kills 10 in Kharkiv as Moscow Reports Massive Drone Attack

Ukraine and Russia exchanged major overnight attacks, with Ukrainian officials reporting that a Russian missile strike killed at least 10 civilians in the northeastern Kharkiv region, while Moscow said more than 600 Ukrainian drones were launched toward the Russian capital.

Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said the Russian missile struck the village of Pechenihy, near the Russian border, killing 10 people and wounding at least 18 others. The casualty figures were preliminary.

“The strike damaged 10 private houses, a cafe, a post office, a shop and at least seven cars,” Syniehubov said in a statement on Telegram, adding that emergency services were responding to the attack.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the missile strike targeted a busy intersection.

Parts of the northeastern Kharkiv region remain occupied by Russian forces, while both Kharkiv and Russia's neighbouring Belgorod region have been repeatedly targeted throughout the war.

Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said Ukraine launched around 620 drones toward the Moscow region in one of the largest reported drone attacks on the Russian capital.

The attacks caused minor damage at a facility belonging to Wildberries, Russia's largest online retailer, which Ukrainian forces have reportedly targeted repeatedly in recent attacks.
