Two of Kurdistan’s leading political figures, Nechirvan Barzani and Masrour Barzani, have issued messages marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), paying tribute to generations of Kurdish leaders, Peshmerga and martyrs while reaffirming their commitment to the future, stability and progress of the Kurdistan Region.

In his statement, Nechirvan Barzani described the KDP’s eight-decade journey as one defined by sacrifice, struggle and major achievements. He paid tribute to the immortal Mustafa Barzani and all those who gave their lives for the freedom of Kurdistan, while extending congratulations to the Kurdish people, the families of martyrs, President Masoud Barzani and the party’s leadership, members and supporters.

Founded 80 years ago amid the Kurdish people’s aspirations for freedom and self-determination, the KDP has played a central role in the modern political history of Kurdistan. Nechirvan Barzani said the party continues to bear a historic responsibility to protect the Kurdistan Region’s constitutional achievements and work toward a better future for its people.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening national unity, harmony and peaceful coexistence among Kurdistan’s diverse communities, while also calling for continuous renewal, modernization, stronger institutions and improved governance.

Masrour Barzani, Vice President of the KDP, also marked August 16 as a day of particular national significance, coinciding with both the party’s founding anniversary and the birthday of President Masoud Barzani.

He described the founding of the KDP by Mustafa Barzani as one of the defining moments in Kurdish history and praised the party’s continued leadership under President Masoud Barzani.

According to Masrour Barzani, the KDP remains a major force in safeguarding the Kurdistan Region’s security, stability and constitutional status, while promoting peaceful coexistence and contributing to reconstruction, development and progress.

Both leaders used the anniversary to honor the legacy of Mustafa Barzani, Kak Idris, generations of Kurdish freedom fighters, Peshmerga and the martyrs of Kurdistan.
