President Barzani Hails KDP’s 80-Year Legacy and Reaffirms Commitment to Serving Kurdistan

Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) leader Masoud Barzani has marked the 80th anniversary of the party’s founding with a message praising its long history of struggle and reaffirming its commitment to serving the people of Kurdistan.

In his message, Barzani extended congratulations to the families of martyrs, Peshmerga forces, party members and supporters, as well as the people of Kurdistan.

He said the KDP was founded during a difficult period in Kurdistan’s history to restore hope and strength to the Kurdish people. Over the past eight decades, he said, the party had served as a political and revolutionary force and had consistently defended what he described as the legitimate rights of the people of Kurdistan.

Barzani stressed that the party’s mission, both historically and in the future, is to serve the people and promote national and patriotic values.

The KDP leader also reaffirmed the party’s support for coexistence, brotherhood and harmony among Kurdistan and Iraq’s different ethnic, religious and political communities. He emphasized that partnership and respect for the Iraqi constitution remain essential to ensuring stability, security and prosperity across the country.

Addressing party members and supporters, Barzani described the KDP as a “source of strength” for the people of Kurdistan and said its primary responsibility remains public service.

He expressed confidence that, with determination and the support of the Kurdish people, no obstacle would prevent the party from carrying out what he described as its “sacred duty.”

The message also paid tribute to the martyrs, Peshmerga fighters and other figures who made sacrifices throughout the party’s history. Barzani praised the KDP’s cadres, members and supporters for their loyalty and dedication, saying they had contributed to what he described as “glorious pages” in the history of their people.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party marks its 80th anniversary on August 16, 2026.
