Kurdish Kolbar Killed by Iranian Border Forces in Baneh

Mohammad Tohidpanah, a 25-year-old Kurdish kolbar from Saqqez, was killed after Iranian Border Regiment forces opened fire on a group of kolbars in the Hengezhal border area of Baneh, according to information received by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.

The incident reportedly occurred early Monday, August 10, when Border Regiment forces opened fire on the group while they were carrying goods in the border area. According to Hengaw, the forces fired without issuing a prior warning.

Tohidpanah, who was from the village of Vazmaleh in the Sarshiv district of Saqqez, was reportedly struck by gunfire and died at the scene.

Informed sources cited by Hengaw said that the forces opened fire directly at Tohidpanah without any warning.

The incident has once again drawn attention to the risks faced by Kurdish kolbars, who transport goods across mountainous border areas between Iran and Iraq, often under hazardous conditions.
