Halabja Agricultural Market Held to Promote Local Farmers’ Produce

The nine-day Halabja Agricultural Market is now promoting and selling locally produced agricultural goods.

Now in its second consecutive year, it provides an important opportunity for farmers to sell their local produce and gives tourists, locals and Kurdish visitors the chance to sample and purchase fresh agricultural products.

Star Mahmood, Director General of Agriculture in Halabja, said that this year farmers will sell their produce in 100 shops and spaces, free of charge. He supports future markets and hopes they will provide greater support to local farmers.

Ninth Cabinet of the KRG (Kurdistan Regional Government) expansion of this and other markets is part of a wider agricultural sector revitalization and growth that has greatly benefited farmers.

Kaywan Fariq, one of the participating farmers, said that, just a few hours before the Market opens, farmers bring their agricultural products—including sunflowers and fresh produce—from across Halabja Governorate and Sharazoor District, enabling them to present fresh products to buyers.

Firdaws Salah, visiting the Market from Erbil, expressed her delight at the aroma, natural quality and taste of the local produce. She described the Market as an enjoyable and attractive festival where local farmers' agricultural and handcrafted products are presented to the public.
