Kurdistan Region President Marks 93rd Anniversary of Ashuri Martyrs' Day

On the occasion of the 93rd anniversary of Ashuri Martyrs' Day, the President of the Kurdistan Region issued a statement paying tribute to the martyrs and the innocent victims of the 1933 Simele genocide.

In the statement, the President expressed respect and loyalty to the memory of those who lost their lives during the massacre, noting that in 1933 thousands of Assyrians, including the residents of more than sixty villages in the Mosul and Dohuk areas, fell victim to the actions of the authorities of the then Iraqi monarchy.

Commemorating the tragedy, the President emphasized that the most meaningful way to honor the victims is to strengthen the values of tolerance, peaceful coexistence, and mutual acceptance among all communities. The statement underscored that promoting these principles is essential for building a peaceful and stable future.

The President also reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region remains committed to protecting its diverse social fabric, stressing that Kurdistan will always be a shared homeland for all its communities, regardless of their ethnic or religious backgrounds.
