KRG to Complete the Strategic Korre–Shaqlawa–Qandil Road Project by the End of 2026

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), working closely with local companies and a local workforce, continues to rapidly construct the (10 km) modern Korre–Shaqlawa–Qandil dual carriageway. Work is almost two-thirds (60%) complete, with construction teams, working to a high technical standard and at full capacity, currently on schedule to complete the remaining work by the end of the year.

Designed according to advanced engineering specifications, the carriageway has two tunnels and three separate junctions. Work on the Mirawa Tunnel, including installation of lighting and all safety systems, is now complete and it is open to the public. Work on the Mawaran Tunnel, consistent with the highest safety standards, is still ongoing. The three separate junctions are being constructed.

This strategic highway (total budget IQD 90 billion), part of the KRG's commitment to strengthen economic infrastructure and improve citizen’s daily lives, will develop the transport sector, reduce travel time between Erbil and the Soran District (by over half-an-hour), and improve user safety, while reiterating the KRG’s commitment to encourage and support local capacity, serve citizens, and extend public services across the Kurdistan Region (KR).
