Kurdistan Region Leadership Marks Türkiye’s Democracy and National Unity Day
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and Prime Minister Masrour Barzani issued separate statements on the tenth anniversary of Türkiye’s Democracy and National Unity Day, reaffirming the Kurdistan Region’s solidarity with Türkiye and emphasizing the importance of stability, democratic institutions, and regional cooperation.
President Nechirvan Barzani paid tribute to those who lost their lives defending Türkiye’s democracy and constitutional order during the events of July 15, 2016. He expressed solidarity with the people of Türkiye on the day of remembrance and highlighted the country’s transformation over the past two decades under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The President noted that Türkiye has strengthened its position as a leading regional power while advancing its economic development, infrastructure, and international influence. He reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to deepening its strong partnership with Türkiye and expanding cooperation with President Erdoğan and the Republic of Türkiye in pursuit of regional peace, stability, and shared prosperity.

In a separate message, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani honored those who were killed defending Türkiye’s elected institutions during the failed coup attempt. He stressed that political violence must be condemned in all its forms and expressed his wishes for the continued peace and prosperity of neighboring Türkiye.
The statements underscore the Kurdistan Region leadership’s continued support for strong relations with Türkiye and their shared commitment to promoting regional security, stability, and cooperation.
