Nineveh Records 17th Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Case as Iraq's Total Reaches 163
Nineveh's Health Directorate confirmed on Monday a new case of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF), raising the total number of confirmed infections in the province to 17 since the beginning of 2026.
According to a medical source, the latest patient is a 37-year-old woman from the Al-Taleem neighborhood on the left bank of Mosul. She was admitted to Ibn Sina Teaching Hospital on July 11 after being identified as a suspected CCHF case.
The new infection comes amid continued concern over the spread of the tick-borne viral disease across Iraq.
According to the Shafaq News CCHF tracker, Iraq has recorded 163 confirmed cases of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever and 10 related deaths since the start of the year. Dhi Qar Province remains the country's most affected governorate, reporting 74 confirmed cases, the highest number nationwide.
