Iran Says It Is Honoring Ceasefire as US Pushes for Shipping Guarantees and Nuclear Concessions

Iran said on Saturday that it remains committed to the ceasefire memorandum of understanding with the United States, rejecting US President Donald Trump's assertion that the truce is effectively over, as both sides continue negotiations amid renewed tensions over maritime security and Tehran’s nuclear program.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran has fully complied with its obligations under the ceasefire framework and accused Washington of failing to uphold its own commitments.

"Iran has so far kept its word," Araghchi wrote on X, referring to a provision in the memorandum that he said prohibited the United States from deploying additional military forces to the region.

His remarks came after President Trump stated that the ceasefire with Iran was "over," while adding that Washington had nevertheless agreed to continue diplomatic discussions with Tehran.

Meanwhile, Iranian state media reported that an explosion heard in eastern Tehran province resulted from the controlled disposal of leftover ammunition from the recent conflict. Local authorities said the operation was planned, posed no threat to residents, and caused no casualties or damage.

The clarification followed reports from residents in Pakdasht and Qiyamdasht who had heard a loud blast, with its source initially unknown.

Senior US officials said Washington’s immediate priority in ongoing talks is obtaining a public commitment from Iran to halt attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and ensure that international shipping lanes remain open without tolls or interference.

According to the officials, discussions with Tehran have been constructive in recent days. However, they warned that any failure by Iran to provide such guarantees could undermine diplomatic progress.

The United States also continues to press Iran to surrender its stockpile of highly enriched uranium as part of negotiations taking place under a 60-day framework established by a memorandum signed in June. US officials reiterated that both military and economic measures remain available should Tehran refuse to comply.

President Trump also said he had instructed the US military to remain prepared to respond decisively if Iran were to carry out or attempt any assassination plot against him.

His comments came after the funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, where some participants were reported to have made public calls for Trump's assassination.

The latest developments follow weeks of heightened military tensions between the United States and Iran, which disrupted maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz and intensified concerns over a broader regional conflict.
