Modern Road Network Boosts Trade, Agriculture and Regional Connectivity in Soran
Modern road infrastructure is transforming commerce across the Soran Independent Administration, with newly completed highways, bridges and transport corridors reducing travel times, improving freight movement and expanding market access for farmers.
According to Kurdistan24, international truck drivers using the trade route between the Kurdistan Region and Iran say upgraded roads have replaced years of difficult journeys over damaged infrastructure. The improvements have made cargo transport faster, safer and more reliable while lowering vehicle maintenance costs.
Farmers are also benefiting from the new road network, reporting that improved highways, bridges and tunnels enable agricultural products to reach markets more quickly, reduce transportation expenses and help preserve product quality.
The infrastructure program is part of the Kurdistan Regional Government's broader economic development strategy. According to the KRG Department of Media and Information, the Ninth Cabinet (2019–2026) launched 1,271 road projects covering nearly 5,940 kilometers, with 810 projects completed and 461 still under construction across the Kurdistan Region.
Authorities are also advancing major projects such as the planned expansion of the Khalifan Curve highway to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents, alongside investments in pedestrian bridges, underpasses, road safety measures and modern traffic systems.
Officials say the expanding transportation network will strengthen regional connectivity, support agriculture and trade, reduce logistics costs and create a stronger foundation for long-term economic growth throughout the Kurdistan Region.
