Kurdistan Region President Meets Chaldean Patriarch, Reaffirms Commitment to Protecting Christians and Promoting Coexistence
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received His Beatitude Mar Paulus III Nona, Patriarch of the Chaldean Church in Iraq and worldwide, to discuss the situation of Iraq's diverse communities, with particular attention to Christians, and the importance of preserving coexistence and mutual understanding.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the general circumstances facing the country's communities and stressed the need to strengthen the values of coexistence, mutual acceptance, and tolerance among the diverse religious and ethnic components of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani reaffirmed that Christians are an indigenous and integral part of Kurdistan and reiterated his commitment to safeguarding their rights. He emphasized that the Kurdistan Region will always remain a homeland for all its communities without distinction and will continue to uphold cultural and religious pluralism.
His Beatitude Mar Paulus III Nona praised the Kurdistan Region's historical and continuing role as a safe haven for religious and ethnic communities. He also expressed his appreciation for Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani's steadfast support for protecting the rights and freedoms of all communities.
The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of both sides to strengthening peaceful coexistence, protecting diversity, and fostering mutual respect throughout the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
