Trump Says Iran Eager for Nuclear Deal After US Strikes, Confirms Upcoming Meeting with Netanyahu

US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Iran is eager to reach an agreement with Washington following recent US military strikes, claiming Tehran has been significantly weakened and is now seeking to return to negotiations.

Speaking during a ceremony at Mount Rushmore ahead of US Independence Day celebrations marking the country's 250th anniversary, Trump said the United States had deliberately postponed talks with Iran for a week to allow the country time to observe a funeral.

"We knocked the hell out of Iran. They are dying to settle," Trump said. "Iran wants to settle so badly. We gave them a week off for a funeral because we're nice."

Trump did not specify when negotiations would resume or identify which funeral he was referring to. However, he maintained that Tehran is now prepared to pursue a diplomatic settlement following the recent conflict.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump have agreed to meet in the United States in the near future after holding a telephone conversation on Friday, according to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office.

During the call, Netanyahu congratulated Trump ahead of the 250th anniversary of US independence and praised the close relationship between the United States and Israel.

"The US is what ensures the freedom of the world, and Israel greatly appreciates the tight bond between the nations," Netanyahu said, according to the statement.

The Israeli Prime Minister's Office said the two leaders agreed to hold an in-person meeting in the United States "soon," although no date or location has been announced.
