Kurdistan Region President Attends State Funeral in Tehran, Holds High-Level Talks on Regional Security and Cooperation

The President of the Kurdistan Region arrived in Tehran on an official visit at the invitation of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to attend the state funeral of Grand Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the late Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

During the visit, the President of the Kurdistan Region held a series of high-level meetings with senior Iranian officials, focusing on strengthening relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, while also discussing the latest regional developments and efforts to promote peace and stability.

The President met separately with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.

In discussions with President Pezeshkian, both leaders emphasized the importance of expanding trade and economic cooperation and building upon the deep historical, cultural, and geographical ties that connect Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and Iran. They also reviewed developments across the region, reaffirming their commitment to preserving security and stability through dialogue and peaceful means. Both sides expressed hope that continued dialogue between Iran and the United States, together with an end to regional conflicts, would contribute to lasting peace, stability, and stronger cooperation among the countries and peoples of the region.

In his meeting with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, discussions focused on bilateral relations, regional cooperation, the implementation of the ceasefire, and recent political and security developments. Both sides stressed the importance of continued dialogue, coordination, and comprehensive cooperation to safeguard regional security, stability, and the shared interests of the peoples of the region.

The President also met with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, where both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendly relations between Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and Iran. Their discussions highlighted the need to further expand cooperation across various sectors and underscored the importance of maintaining regional peace and stability through diplomacy and dialogue. They also discussed the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, expressing hope that diplomatic efforts would result in a sustainable agreement that would enhance peace and security throughout the region.
