Baghdad Governor Invites Kurdistan Companies to Invest in Iraqi Capital
Baghdad Governor Atwan al-Atwani has invited companies operating in the Kurdistan Region to invest in Baghdad, describing the Iraqi capital as a “virgin land” full of opportunities for investors.
During a visit to Erbil, Atwani met with the President of the Kurdistan Region, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, and senior officials, emphasizing Baghdad’s efforts to attract capital and diversify its economy beyond oil.
The governor said improved security conditions have made Baghdad more attractive for local and foreign investors, stressing that early investors would gain significant advantages. He encouraged investment across various sectors, including healthcare and infrastructure.
Atwani praised Erbil’s urban planning, ring roads, green spaces, and electronic government services, describing them as successful models that Baghdad hopes to emulate. He also highlighted the Kurdistan Region’s investment law as an example worth studying.
