U.S. Waives Iran Oil Sanctions for 60 Days as Nuclear Talks Advance
The United States has temporarily waived some oil-related sanctions on Iran for 60 days as negotiations between Washington and Tehran continue, with officials saying the move is linked to progress toward a possible agreement on Iran’s nuclear program and regional security issues.
U.S. officials said discussions have focused on allowing international nuclear inspections and addressing concerns over the reopening and security of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes.
U.S. Vice President JD Vance said a “foundation” has been established for reaching a final agreement, adding that Iran had agreed to allow inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Iran confirmed that its nuclear program was discussed during the talks but said the issue was only briefly addressed.
Pakistan, which has played a mediating role between the two sides, said the United States and Iran had agreed on a roadmap aimed at reaching a final deal within 60 days.
