Iran Declares Strait of Hormuz Closed as Nuclear Talks Begin in Switzerland Amid Regional Fighting
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards announced on Saturday that the Strait of Hormuz had been shut again, raising further concerns over regional tensions and the global energy supply route.
The announcement came as Iranian state media reported that senior Iranian officials had arrived in Switzerland for peace talks scheduled to begin on Sunday. The negotiations are expected to focus on Tehran’s nuclear programme and other elements of a possible agreement aimed at reducing tensions.
The diplomatic efforts gained new momentum after US Vice President JD Vance, who had initially cancelled his trip, arrived in Switzerland to participate in the discussions.
However, progress remains uncertain as the proposed agreement is reportedly linked to a halt in fighting in Lebanon. The situation on the ground continued to deteriorate, with Lebanese civil defence authorities reporting that 20 people were killed in Israeli strikes on Saturday.
