Iran Links US–Iran Peace Deal to Israeli Withdrawal from Lebanon as Trump Says Tehran Will Not Get Nuclear Weapons
Iran’s top diplomat has said that any continued Israeli military presence in Lebanon would violate the terms of a preliminary US–Iran agreement aimed at ending the conflict, adding a new condition to the fragile diplomatic process.
The statement comes as Switzerland announced that the preliminary US–Iran deal is expected to be signed on Friday in Lucerne. The agreement, according to officials, is intended to reduce tensions and address concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme.
Speaking at the G7 summit, US President Donald Trump said the deal would ensure that Iran does not obtain nuclear weapons. Trump also urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to act “more responsibly” in handling the situation with Hezbollah in Lebanon.
However, Netanyahu has insisted that Israel will remain in Lebanon for as long as it considers necessary, arguing that its military presence is needed to protect Israeli security interests.
US Vice President JD Vance described the agreement as “very general” but said that international nuclear inspectors would be allowed to return to Iran as part of the arrangement.
