Kurdistan Region President Receives ENKS Leadership, Stresses Kurdish Unity and Engagement with Damascus
Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani received a delegation from the Kurdish National Council in Syria (ENKS) to discuss recent political and security developments in Syria and the wider region.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the overall situation in Syria, the conditions facing the Kurdish population and Kurdish-majority areas, and the recent elections for Syria’s People’s Assembly.
The discussions emphasized the importance of Kurdish participation in Syria’s political process and in the country’s political, legislative, and administrative institutions. Both parties described such participation as a fundamental requirement for protecting the legitimate rights of the Kurdish people.
President Nechirvan Barzani highlighted the significant role played by ENKS and stressed the need for Kurdish unity in Syria. He underscored the importance of continued dialogue, cooperation, and mutual understanding among all Kurdish political groups.
The President also called for strengthening relations and engagement with Damascus in order to achieve comprehensive solutions to Syria’s political challenges while preserving security and stability.
The ENKS delegation briefed the President on the council’s latest political activities and efforts and expressed appreciation for the continued support provided by the Kurdistan Region and President Nechirvan Barzani to the Kurds in Syria.
The meeting also addressed security concerns, particularly the threat posed by ISIS and its recent activities in the region. In this context, both sides discussed the recent visit of U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Iraq and Syria, Tom Barrack, to Erbil, where he met with President Nechirvan Barzani and Mazloum Abdi. The discussions highlighted the importance of greater cooperation and coordination to combat terrorism and maintain regional stability.
