Kurdistan Region Leaders Mourn the Passing of Grand Ayatollah Sheikh Mohammad Ishaq Al-Fayyad

The leadership of the Kurdistan Region has expressed profound sorrow over the passing of Mohammad Ishaq Al-Fayyad, paying tribute to his lifelong contributions to religious scholarship, education, and public service.

In a statement posted on X, Nechirvan Barzani extended his "most heartfelt condolences and sincere sympathies," describing Al-Fayyad as one of the most prominent religious and scholarly authorities in Iraq and the Islamic world. He said Iraq had lost a towering figure whose influence on religious and intellectual life helped entrench the values of moderation, tolerance, and wisdom over decades.

President Barzani also expressed solidarity with the late cleric's family, students, and admirers, praising the enduring legacy he left in the service of knowledge and Iraq.

Separately, Masrour Barzani offered his sincerest condolences to the office of the Supreme Religious Authority, the Iraqi people, and Muslims worldwide. He prayed for Almighty God to grant the late Grand Ayatollah His boundless mercy and to bestow patience and comfort upon his family and loved ones.

Both leaders concluded their messages with the Quranic verse: "Indeed, to God we belong, and to Him we shall return."

The passing of Grand Ayatollah Al-Fayyad marks the loss of one of Iraq's most respected religious figures, whose scholarly work and guidance shaped generations and earned him widespread respect across Iraq and the broader Islamic world.
