Iraq Condemns Rocket and Drone Attacks on Kuwait, Calls for Regional Restraint
Iraq on Friday condemned the rocket and drone attacks that targeted Kuwait earlier this week, emphasizing the need to preserve regional security and stability amid growing tensions.
In a statement, the Iraqi Foreign Ministry reiterated Baghdad’s rejection of “all acts that threaten the security and stability of countries in the region.” The ministry called for restraint from all parties and stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving crises and preventing further escalation.
“Iraq supports all international and regional efforts aimed at preventing the circle of violence from expanding,” the statement said, adding that Baghdad backs initiatives seeking peaceful solutions that safeguard the security and stability of the region’s peoples.
Kuwait has blamed Iran for the attacks, describing them as a dangerous escalation and a violation of its sovereignty and national security. Kuwaiti authorities condemned what they called “Iranian attacks” on its territory, warning that the strikes posed a direct threat to civilians and critical infrastructure.
While Iraq strongly denounced the attacks, it stopped short of attributing responsibility to Iran.
Meanwhile, the United States military on Thursday accused Iran of violating a fragile regional ceasefire following the attack, further raising concerns about the potential for renewed instability in the region.
