President Masoud Barzani Marks 50th Anniversary of the May Revolution with Tribute to Peshmerga and Martyrs

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — President Masoud Barzani commemorated the 50th anniversary of the outbreak of the May (Gulan) Revolution with a message honoring the sacrifices of the Kurdish people, Peshmerga forces, and martyrs who played key roles in the struggle for Kurdistan.

In his statement, President Barzani described the May Revolution as a historic and decisive stage in the Kurdish liberation movement, emphasizing that it continued the path and objectives of the Great September Revolution.

He said the revolution proved that despite temporary setbacks, the will of the people of Kurdistan “will never be broken,” adding that the Kurdish struggle continued with renewed hope and determination toward achieving its national aspirations.

President Barzani stated that the success of the May Revolution was rooted in the heroism of the Peshmerga, the resilience of the Kurdish people, strong organization, and the clarity of its goals and slogans.

Marking the occasion, he expressed appreciation to all fighters, Peshmerga members, and patriots who contributed to the revolution both inside and outside Kurdistan, saying they had written “a bright history filled with pride and glory” for their people.

President Barzani also paid tribute to the first martyr of the May Revolution, Sayid Abdullah Haji Omrani, along with all Kurdish martyrs. He noted that the freedoms and achievements enjoyed by the Kurdish people today were the result of the sacrifices of the martyrs, the bravery of the Peshmerga, and the dedication of generations of Kurdish revolutionaries.
