PM Masrour Barzani, Mustafa al-Kadhimi Discuss Erbil-Baghdad Relations and Regional Developments

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday received former Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in Erbil, where the two sides discussed the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the wider region, as well as relations between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government in Baghdad.

During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed Prime Minister Barzani’s recent visit to Baghdad and his discussions with senior Iraqi officials and political leaders aimed at resolving outstanding disputes between Erbil and Baghdad through constitutional mechanisms and lasting solutions.

Prime Minister Barzani visited Baghdad over the weekend, holding a series of meetings with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, senior state officials, and leaders of major political blocs.

The talks focused on long-standing issues between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government, particularly the Kurdistan Region’s financial entitlements, public sector salaries, oil exports, and coordination between the KRG and Baghdad.

The Kurdistan Region has repeatedly called for disputes with the federal government to be resolved in accordance with the Iraqi constitution, while Iraqi leaders have continued to stress dialogue and political consensus as essential for preserving stability across the country.
