Iraqi and Iranian Foreign Ministers Discuss Tehran-Washington Talks and Regional Stability
Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein held talks with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Saturday to discuss the latest developments in ongoing negotiations between Tehran and Washington, with Baghdad expressing hope for an end to regional conflict and a return to stability.
According to a statement from Iraq’s foreign ministry, Hussein received a phone call from Araghchi during which he congratulated the Iranian diplomat on assuming office as Iran’s foreign minister.
The statement said Araghchi briefed Hussein on recent developments in the negotiations and outlined progress made during the latest round of discussions between Iran and the United States.
The two ministers also stressed the importance of Pakistan’s role in supporting the negotiation process and praised its diplomatic efforts. They additionally highlighted Qatar’s participation in the current stage of the talks.
Hussein thanked Araghchi for sharing details regarding proposals under discussion and expressed satisfaction with what he described as positive developments in the negotiations.
The Iraqi foreign minister also commended Araghchi’s efforts to move the talks forward and emphasized the need to end military operations in the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible, while calling for the lifting of sanctions imposed on Iran.
Hussein expressed hope that the diplomatic process would soon produce positive results leading to an end to the conflict and the restoration of stability and normal life across the region.
