Itamar Ben-Gvir Releases Controversial Video of Detained Gaza Flotilla Activists
A video released by Itamar Ben-Gvir on X has triggered widespread international condemnation after it showed detained pro-Palestinian activists with their hands tied and forced to kneel while the Israeli national anthem played loudly in the background.
The activists were reportedly part of a Gaza-bound flotilla attempting to challenge Israel’s blockade on Gaza. In the footage, the detainees appear surrounded by Israeli security forces as the minister allegedly mocks and taunts them during their detention.
Human rights organizations, activists, and political figures from several countries criticized the video, describing it as humiliating and incompatible with international human rights standards regarding the treatment of detainees. Critics argued that broadcasting such scenes on social media further intensified tensions surrounding the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Supporters of the Israeli government, however, defended the operation, claiming the flotilla violated Israeli security restrictions and posed potential risks.
The incident has renewed international debate over Israel’s handling of pro-Palestinian activism, freedom of protest, and the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Officials from several international organizations have called for an investigation into the treatment of the detained activists and urged all parties to respect international law.
